History

Created in 1972, Expur S.A. has grown to a important Romanian company. Throughout the years, it has become one of the key oilseed processors of Romania, with an annual processing capacity of 380.000 tons of oilseeds.

The company currently processes two main types of raw materials, namely sunflower seeds, soybeans, and rapeseeds each generating distinct yields of oils and meals.

Below are the main stages of Expur, an expanding and successful company:

1972:

Expur S.A. and the soybean crushing factory are formed in Urziceni (production capacity: 550 tons per day).

1990:

Expur is reorganised and registered with the Ialomita county Trade Registry. State Ownership Fund (FPS) becomes its majority shareholder.

1997:

Alimenta group purchases Expur company from Romanian Government.

1998:

Expur purchases the Urziceni silo, adjacent to the factory, for the storage of raw materials.

2001:

Expur purchases the silo of Dragalina, further extending it's storage capacity

2004:

Expur buys the twin line multiseed crushing factory in Slobozia (capacity 800t per day) and the adjacent silo for seed storage.

2006:

Expur S.A. convertes one line of the factory in Slobozia to crush 450 tons of rapeseed per day, increasing the total daily capacity to 900 tons per day of rapeseed and/or sunflower seed. A new metal 44,000 ton capacity multiseed storage silo is also built adjacent to the factory in Slobozia and construction of a bio-diesel plant alongside the oil factory in Slobozia is begun.

2007:

A waste water treatment station is installed in the Slobozia factory in order to comply with EU environmental legislation. Improvements are made to the second oilseed crushing line. Expur purchases its fifth silo in Fierbinti and installs a new dryer and cleaning equipment, thus expanding Expur's total storage capacity of raw materials to 234,000 tons.

2008:

Expur buys its sixth silo in Dragos Voda, expanding its storage capacity even more and starts working to increase the crushing capacity in the Slobozia factory. The new bottling line of 10'000 bottles/hour becomes operational.

2009

Expur stops production at the Urziceni Plant due to lack of availabilty of raw materials. This is because the local farmers are forced to stop producing soybeans due to current European regulations, which forbid cultivation of genetically modified soyabeans.

Expur begins biodiesel production and plans to make their first delivery of the finished product.

2010

Expur is acquired by Saipol, the French leader in oilseed crushing and oil refining that belongs to the Sofiprotéol group.
