Sofiprotéol is the financial and industrial actor of the French vegetable oil and protein sector. It promotes the development of companies working within the sector through the long-term management of investment funds, and directly influences the structural organization of the sector through two specialized divisions: Soprol – Oilseeds division, and Sofial – Nutrition and animal health.

Human and animal nutrition are at the core of Sofiprotéol’s activities, whose mission consists in promoting research, marketing products, processing and adding value to oilseed and protein crops, while ensuring a proper return to all those working in the industry. The group’s activities also contribute to fighting global warming and, more generally, protecting the environment through the development of renewable energy and chemistry.
Sofiprotéol employs over 6 000 people and has a turnover of approximately 5.5 billion €.

Saipol

Saipol is the French leader in oilseed crushing and vegetable oil refining. Saipol, which is part of Sofiprotéol’s Oilseed Division, processes sunflower and rapeseed into vegetable oil, oil meal and by-products intended for human consumption, animal feed, sustainable energy and chemistry. Saipol operates through seven production sites in France. It also produces biodiesel and vegetable glycerin for its sister company Diester Industrie. Saipol employs 550 people and has a turnover of 1.6 billion euros (2009).

Oilseed Processing

Expur is one of the largest Romanian oil seed processing companies. Expur processes sunflower seeds and rapeseeds producing crude oil, refined oil, and protein meals. The oils are sold on the domestic and export markets and the protein meals are sold largely to Romanian retail customers and manufacturers of animal feed.

Since 1997, Expur has embarked on an expansion program with the target of increasing production capacities, upgrading technology, whilst adhering to environmental norms, as well as expanding processing activity and boosting storage facilities.

Today, Expur owns two crushing plant in Slobozia and Urziceni and a network of six silos located in the fertile area of the Danube River.

In view of extending the production chain, Expur has built a new 100,000 ton biodiesel facility which is supplied by internally produced oil and whose production is sold mainly on the local market.
